Pyramid of Khafre
The pyramid of Khafre may not be the tallest pyramid in Giza, at 450 ft, but it still has many interesting facts, for example is was the second pyramid built in Giza. The estimated volume the pyramid is a staggering 58,100,000 cubic feet. On the base each side of the pyramid is 695 ft long. With this being a perfect pyramid, each side has an angle of 53 degrees. Pulling two and a half tons 1,500,000 times up a mountain sounds hard right, that is how much each of the blocks are estimated to weigh. When planning the pyramid Khafre built it on a mesa that made an illusion that his pyramid was taller than his father's great pyramid of Khufu. Khafre ruled Egypt for 25 long, years, after his reign started in 2558 BCE. His sarcophagus was black solid granite. Shortly, after his burial his mummy was stolen. A while after his mummy was stolen two bull bones were placed in his spot, thought to be an offering for his mummy getting stolen. Khafre was able to build such a tremendous pyramid at that time because of the wealth the country had at that time. The pyramid of Khafre is the only pyramid in Giza that has the original white polished limestone on it, it is on the top with only a small amount. The original entrance to the pyramid could not be located until another was in the pyramid was found. The craziest thing, I think, is that the pyramids of Giza were built right next to the Nile River at the time. Now a days the river flows in a different location than before. The pyramid of Khafre still has many interesting facts.
